 What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress release/reduction, along with deep relaxation that promotes healing.

This is why reiki is gentle enough to be enjoyed by expectant mothers, newborns, the elderly, and seriously ill. Reiki is a powerful yet beneficial therapy to all.

Reiki is a Natural, Holistic Therapy. It can relieve your stress, anxiety, depression and generally improve and maintain your health by balancing your Chakras and Auras.  Reiki healing is a pure energy form. When it is combined with the sincere desire of the healee, who is willing to effect a cleansing within their emotional and spiritual consciousness, a total healing can occur!

Reiki is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life-force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, depression, anxiety and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy, increasing our built-in defences. This can manifest itself as confidence and outward harmony in dealing with everyday events. It can also help you gain a positive outlook on life! When we are relaxed, stress-free, we are able to restore our natural ability to heal.  The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words

Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power"

Ki which is "life force energy"

So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. If one has a medical or psychological condition it is recommended that they see a licensed health care professional in addition to receiving Reiki treatments. Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care or any other method of alternative care and will improve the results.

"Researchers have found that relaxation...techniques can boost immunity, short-circuit anger, curb smoking, and relieve insomnia, back pain, high blood   pressure, motion sickness, impotence, premenstrual syndrome, menopause, and irritable bowel syndrome. With professional care, relaxation can also help in the control of diabetes, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, panic attacks, phobias, and depression" ~ Editors, PREVENTION MAGAZINE ~

What to expect during a treatment:

Reiki feels like warm sunshine, gently surrounding you, filling you with love and peace. Reiki treats the person's emotions, mind, body and spirit as a whole; Creating many beneficial effects that include, deep relaxation, feelings of peace, security, and well being.

Reiki is a technique for stress reduction that also promotes healing. During a session, a client is usually laying on a massage table but a client can be seated or standing. The client remains clothed, except for bulky things, and shoes. A light blanket is usually used. The practitioner's hands are placed near or lightly touching the client. There is no manipulation of the skin or muscle tissue, as in massage.

If you are comfortable with hands-on work, the touch is very gentle, non-intrusive, and extremely respectful of your personal space. If hands-off work is more comfortable for you, it will not change, or make any difference to the treatment. These hand positions can include areas around the head, neck and shoulders, stomach, legs, back and feet. Other more specific hand positions can be used based on the client's needs. Each position is usually held for approximately 3-10 minutes, depending on how much reiki the client needs at each position. The whole treatment typically lasts 45-90 minutes.

What one experiences during a reiki treatment varies somewhat from person to person. However, feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by all. In addition, many feel a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and surrounds them. As the reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings, a state of peace and well-being is experienced. Some drift off to sleep or report floating outside their bodies or have visions and other mystical experiences. At the end of the treatment, one feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.

What are the side effects of a Reiki treatment?

Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is called a healing crisis. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process so this is a good sign. For at least 24 hours after having a treatment it is very important that you drink at least 8 glasses of water to help flush out any of the toxins that are free to be released.

How many sessions are we looking at?

I would normally say to a client to listen to their body, and to call me when they feel that they need another treatment. I know like most of us, we all tend to put our health, and well being off. We usually take care of so many day to day things that we put ourselves on the bottom of the list. We all come to a point when we realize that we need to listen to our bodies, or we are forced to listen to the signs that our body is putting out. We tend to not listen until we are forced to listen to our bodies. Usually some of the first signs of discomfort, we tend to ignore; Which leads into constant ongoing issues/pain. With a little practice we can all learn to listen, and take care of ourselves.

Reiki is not like a wave of a magic wand that takes everything away instantly! Reiki heals on many levels

(mind, body, emotional, spiritual), so it may take several treatments to truly heal our whole selves. Reiki has proven some miraculous things, so if it can heal in one treatment it will!!!

One question to ask yourself is, how long did it take for you to get to this imbalanced state? Days? Months? Years? How long have you known that you needed a different form of treatment? As with many holistic practices it does take a series of treatments to have outstanding results. Yet you feel walk away feeling at peace, and beginning your transformation at the end of your first treatment!!
